To the OP: I think the wise thing to do would be to go to Ventari's Sell Forum and post a WTB there with whatever stats you decide are important to you. Complaining in this forum about how you don't farm and don't get the things you want isn't going to yield positive results.

Ok, just to confirm my suspicions I did some testing in the Isle of the Nameless.

Intentionally leaving my Swordsmanship at 0, I starting hacking away at the Level 20 Suit of 80 Armor. Each hit was, on average, half that of my sword's 15-28 range. I continued to watch the numbers as I increased my Swordsmanship rank. At rank 9, matching the sword's requirement, my hits fell into its range, but only in the lower half of the spectrum (15-17). As I increased the rank farther, up to 12, each hit was higher, but still in the sword's damage range (25-27). I wasn't using any skills or runes, just basic swings. Occasionally a 28 or 29 would float up from the training dummy, but I attribute those to either good luck or rounding in the damage calculator.

It seems to me that higher ranks do have some affect on base weapon damage, but not by any large degree. Can anyone confirm this finding, cause I really don't want to make myself look like even more of a noob...

Well, you do need a Swordsmanship rank of 12 to get the high-end of the damage range. It's the same with Axe and Hammer. Anything under a rank of 12 in Swordsmanship will yield less damage. It doesn't have anything to do with the req on the sword. A better test would be to get several max damage swords with different reqs and keep your Swordsmanship attribute at the same level.

you will do more damage with 12 in sword than you would with 8 in sword

you would do do damage with 16 in sword than you would with 12 in sword

etc.

most sword warriors want to deal damage so high att points in sword is a good idea.

if you use high att points high req weapons i.e. 12 and 13 are perfectly usable.

the whole idea that low req leads to more crits has been proved countless number of times to be false. there is absolutely no advantage to using a low req weapon when running high amounts of att points.

wha tthe people who poated in here were trying to say about damage is that say you have:
BTW: max dmg on sowrd = 15-22 not 15-28

a req 9 max dmg zodiac sword(or any type)
and
a req 13 max dmg zodiac sword(or any type)
with
16 points into swordsmanship
and 16 points into strength

regardless of the sword you use, the damage will be EXACTLY the same.

as long as the attributes are the same level, you meet the required level for the dmg on the weapon, and the weapons are the same base damage, the damage will be the same.

and some tips for making money: do chest runs in desolation. you can find dead swords, fiery and icy blade axes, and even elemental swords(very rare, i've found a few tho) one elemental sword will solve your money problem for a good long time. do the runs solo, no heros, or bring one so u can take down bosses as well and use as distraction. i suggest the sulfurous wastes.

15-28 was a typo, oops. I was thinking damage range for bows, since my main character is a Ranger.

I did have a Gothic Sword drop for me today though. It's max damage, purple and req 10. But, guess what the inherent mod is? Damage +14%... while hexed. Ugh. Have I no luck whatsoever?

Hmmm. I might have a Gothic Sword somewhere....brb.

edited to add: I have one that's +20% <50%hp. You're welcome to it at a cheap price if you'd like to have it.

Thanks, but no thanks. I'll just find a better one on my own and move on.

This thread can die now.
